Atlanta Themes

Atlanta Zombie Apocalypse:

The Walking Dead is a hit show following a group of survivors in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. Did you know that it is based and filmed in Atlanta? This is not surprising as Atlanta is one of the biggest cities in the South. Alongside that is the fact that the CDC is located right in the city. In the midst of COVID 19, the CDC played into the “Zombieness” of the city and released a “Zombie Preparedness” Comic. This fictional, lighthearted comic was helpful in shedding light on the need to stay up to date with CDC guidelines and to always be ready for the unexpected.

Atlanta as the Global Community:

With its diverse culture, Atlanta is the home to multiple unique restaurants and markets. One particular market is the Buford Highway Farmers Market. This market contains foods from almost every country. In this market you will not only find ethnic foods, but also people from all over the world. This just further emphasizes that wherever you go in Atlanta, you can always find what your heart desires when it comes to food.

Atlanta as the New Silicon Valley of the South :

Many people are claiming that Atlanta is turning into the “Silicon Valley of the South”. Statistics show that many businesses are migrating and expanding into the Atlanta metro area. This is not a surprise as Atlanta is growing more and more in technological advances. With Georgia Tech being right in the city, many of these companies are recruiting these students as they will offer great insight into their work. Who knows what Atlanta will look like in the next five years, but one thing that’s for sure is the ever-growing technological and economical advances that this city will continue to build.

Atlanta Free Art Movement:

If you walk around Atlanta, you can find art on every corner. It’s a creative city full of people with gifted talents in the arts. Atlanta is known for its Art movements. One movement, in particular, is the Free Art Movement. This is where artists create art and place it around the city, posting hints on social media for people to find it and keep the piece - for FREE. Next time you find yourself in Atlanta, I challenge you to find five works of art as you walk around. The odds are you will fulfill that challenge pretty easily and maybe find more than you expected.

Atlanta Criminal History:

There is a noir side to Atlanta that many people don’t realize. Crime is something that is constant in this city and it’s nothing new. For example, The Atlanta Child murders were a time in Atlanta in which no one felt at ease. Tayari Jones does a good job explaining this dark time in her novel Leaving Atlanta. Although Atlanta has many great things, it can not be forgotten that corruption still lingers in the hustle and bustle of this ever-growing city.
